Eight Malawians in Turkey affected by earthquake

Eight Malawians have been displaced and are seeking temporary shelter following a recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which was the largest ever recorded in Turkey and caused the death of over 40,000 people, leaving millions displaced. No Malawian fatalities have been reported, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is still trying to determine the exact number of those affected. The spokesperson for the Ministry has asked that Malawians contact the embassy if they know of any relatives affected by the earthquake. An international relations expert has urged the government to continue its contact and tracing efforts to locate all Malawians affected by the disaster. The World Health Organization estimates that up to 23 million people in Turkey and Syria could be affected by the earthquake.
