Mighty Tigers General Secretary Akuzike Kafwamba has said he will lobby for transparency and accountability if elected as an executive member of the Super League of Malawi (Sulom).
Kafwamba will vie for executive member position when Sulom goes to polls on Saturday in Mangochi.
“Emphasis has been placed on maximising gate revenue and ensuring that there is no theft during matches. However, beyond this, there is a need to be transparent regarding all revenue streams that the body has and account for everything accordingly. Secondly, all forms of sponsorships need to be transparent to the clubs and be founded on the win-win principle,” he said.
Kafwamba will face the likes of Daudi Mtanthiko, Charles Mwanyungwa, Ronald Chiwaula, Henry Banda, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, Godfrey Makawano, William Nhlane and Mavuto Missi who are vying for the same executive committee post.
Kafwamba, who is also an anti-doping investigator, said clubs should own Sulom.
“This can only be achieved by involving the clubs throughout the entire decision-making process both at policy making and implementation levels. Sulom is supposed to be a steward of all the clubs and should serve the best interest of the clubs,” he said.
Kafwamba will strive to promote professionalism and visionary leadership.
“This calls for clubs to ensure that all statutes that guide professionalism are strictly adhered to so that the league becomes more competitive and attractive to other stakeholders such as the private sector for the long term development of the sport.
“Football remains the only sport with a great following in the country,” he said.
